Dr. Nasar Ahmed is currently serving as an Associate Professor of Physics at the King Abdullah Campus, University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He earned a Gold Medal in M.Sc. Physics for securing the highest position and joined the university in 2010 as a Research Associate. He was promoted to Lecturer in 2013 and became an Assistant Professor in 2019 after completing his PhD.
He received his PhD in Laser-Matter Interactions from the National Centre for Physics (NCP), Quaid-i-Azam University Campus, Islamabad, where he developed expertise in vacuum systems, laser ablation, and advanced laser technologies. Following his PhD, he continued research at NCP as a Visiting Scientist, focusing on thin film fabrication, nanotechnology, and functional coatings for photodetectors and smart windows.
Dr. Ahmed’s research areas include laser-based material processing, Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD), Atmospheric Pulsed Laser Deposition (APLD), and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). He has successfully led research projects funded by both the University of AJ&K and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. Notably, he completed a project on thin film fabrication for smart window applications and currently leads a major HEC-funded project on plasmonic substrates for chemical and biomedical detection, worth PKR 7.69 million.
To date, Dr. Ahmed has authored 58 research papers in international journals with a cumulative impact factor of 130, over 1,100 citations, an H-index of 20, and an i10-index of 33. He has also supervised numerous undergraduate and graduate students in experimental and laser-based research.
